Grandfather Clocks

Anyone ever bought one over here or seen them for sale off base?

King furniture has a couple, but they are a little more elaborate than I am looking for. I know he said he can custom build pieces, so I may take a picture of what I have in mind and see what he can do.

If anyone knows of any other places I could check out I would appreciate it. We have always wanted to get one and I love the quality you can find off base. I think it would be a nice heirloom.

I have one I bought from Jusco, but it's digital. Easier to see at night.

Indy, I would recommend against one, depending on how many more PCS's you will go through. Grandfather clocks are more sensitive to shipping/PCS's than smaller time pieces and you can really fudge up the internal mechanisms with one PCS. I'd save up and wait when the SO retires and then buy one for your home.

We left my husband's grandfather clock at home along with my grandmother's anniversary clock left to me. Unless you know how to pack up the timing mechanisms separate from the clock itself, again I highly recommend against it. If you REALLY, REALLY want one, you could always have a clocks repair man box it up for you and have another put it back in.

Thanks for the info Trail. The movers over here really pack your stuff up well, but not sure how they would be with the mechanisms of the clock. We actually leave this summer (after a long time here) so we may look into getting one at our new, and should be last, duty station.

You are very welcome Indy. It's not that I do not trust the movers, it's just that the counter balances and mechanisms can be rather sensitive and I just wouldn't want to put anything that is an heirloom (or possible heirloom) through the rigors of PCS'ing.
