Aviation accidents investigators are crediting a ground mechanic with preventing great loss of life Monday morning when a China Airlines Boeing 737-800 burst into flames and exploded shortly after landing at Naha International Airport. Investigators are, at the same time, examining the burned out airliner hulk in search for answers as to how the horrific incident began.

Good job on the mechanic for noting the leak and telling the pilot and good job on the pilot of deciding to emergency evacuate the bird.

As quick as it burned, those two people saved many lives.

Also according to the Japanese news the bolt in question was missing a large washer that was supposed to be on the inside portion of the tank. It was supposed to prevent the possiblity of the bolt popping through the tank and causing any leaks.

Kind of ironic that a washer that probably cost no more than $1.00 was the cause of this explosion.

Kudos to the mechanic and the pilot for quick thinking.
