Please define "Rock".
A couple of your choices, IMO, are not "Rock". For example, the Ramones are considered to be one of the Founding Fathers of Punk. The RHCP's fused Rock and Funk, and Metallica is more Heavy Meatal.
What about U2, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Who,The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, the Grateful Dead....are they rock bands?

Yeah, what he said! :D
Of course, good music is subjective..
Hey, you left out Chris Cornell, one of the best rock singers ever IMHO.
See what I mean? ;)

I define "of all time" to mean a band (not individual singer) who has had their music remain popular through the decades.
Trail
02-18-2009, 10:50 AM
Queen, KISS, AC/DC, Steve Miller Band.... Pink Floyd
I also do not consider Beatles to be "rock" music but that is just me. They seemed like a pop phenomenon but meh, it may just be my generations perspective.
Oh, and Metallica is spelled wrong
My top bands:
Phish
Zeppelin
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Grateful Dead
Radiohead
Pink Floyd (Thanks Trail. How did I forget that one???)
But then again, those are some of my favorites, so I'm biased. Someone else would probably be equally sure (yet still wrong) that the Dave Matthews Band is the greatest band in the world.
Best is a vague word. Best quality? Most memorable lyrics? Most meaningful lyrics? Greatest musical ability? Most innovative? Best for sex? Best when baked? This thread could probably be broken down into several dozen threads.

I had to vote Zep because they are the embodiment of modern rock with it's blues background. (some don't realize how Black Blues Zepplin's songs are)
But I liked all the bands you listed and listen to them all.

I can't believe that nobody here has considered Rush! GREAT band and GREATEST percussionist of all time.

Ones man's rock is anothers pop, punk, etc. Hell, chuck berry was considered rock n roll when it started. Rock n roll all derived from the blues, which traditionally is slave music. Which if you want to get technical, blues/jazz is the only pure form of American music. Take that to the bank.

It wasn't a choice. I have all the albums and have been listening to them since 75 or so. Whenever the Fly by Night album came out. However, their forte lays in their writing in my opinion.

I would say AEROSMITH. Me and my friend would always argue who's better between Led Zep and Aerosmith. I thought early Zep just absolutely ruled, with the bluesy sound on the first 2 or 3 albums......but after that....naw.....hell no. Now Aerosmith, to me, has earned top honors. I've probably seen the Ramones a dozen times and there was a time I worshipped them, but as catchy their tunes are.....they're pretty narrow in style. The other top contenders in my book would be UFO and Ozzie. I think UFO is the most underrated band ever.......and Ozzie (with or without Black Sabbath) really really has some of the most melodic sounding tunes.
But hey, cheers to a lot of ya'll's choices here......CCR was my favorite group when I was a kid (still got a collection of their 45's):scared:.....I have a lot of Queen records, love The Who, I friggin' LOVE The Guess Who, Rush, Def Leppard (Lady Strange!) Iron Maiden (Charlotte the Harlot!) Great stuff!
Check out this Aerosmith.....man, this is the epitome of kick ass songs AND KICK-ASS LEAD GUITARS!!! As long as you appreciate a bluesy southern influence.
