Trying to see if I could get some help with directions to the US Consulate.
Im actually on Camp Hansen so directions from Kin/Hansen would be great, however I do know some of the main areas of the island pretty well, so directions from anywhere near or closer to the middle of the island would also be helpful....
thanks in advance.

Easy one here:), get on the expressway get off at the Nishihara exit get on Hwy 330 going towards Naha, and get off on the very next off ramp going up a hill to your left.
Take a left at the top of the hill, go straight to the next lights, maybe 100 meters or so, turn right go past the Lawson on your left, Barclay's Court Shopping Center, with a Starbucks, and turn left about 50 meters before the next lights.
There is a medical clinic on the left of the entrance and a pharmacy on the right that has a sign for the US Consulate on it's wall. There is also a guard standing out near the street directing traffic in and out of the Consulate.
I also see that their website (http://naha.usconsulate.gov/wwwh4004.html) has a map too!

There's directions and a link to a map :)
Hopefully I managed to post this before the inevitable deluge of condescending remarks.

Actually condescending remarks only come out to people who dont know the **** where they are and expect people to be able to read their peanut brains to get a reply.
Oh and you are a bit late, :D

I can understand people not knowing where they are when they've only been on island for under a week. Not everyone has been on Okinawa since the Cretaceous period. :D

I've found that going under the overpass at 241 is easier and dumps you right at the entrance with fewer turns, and the traffic/gate guard there stops traffic for you to get into the consulate. Be sure to have your ID card ready to show the guard.

Yeah....but when asked, nicely I might add, to check where the **** they are they act as if the onus was on the person asking the question...me...to figure out where the hell they were to give them directions to a location that they didnt have any ******* idea how to get to in the first place.
Next time some cops an attitude like that I am going to give them directions to the Virgin Caves.
Oh and I might suggest looking up the word condescending in the first place, because from "that" post you are referring to I was hardly even close to that in my original reply.

Guess I'll add my two cents:D. I usually get off the expressway and then get off of 330 at the first overpass. Then I turn left on that street and at the light I turn right. That way you're on the same side of the street when you approach the consulate:thumbup:
After I get there I usually chuckle at the site of a JP guarding the gate:D

Asked nicely?? HA!:w00t: iirc you started out with the condescending remark of "I have a hard time understanding how you couldn't know the name of the base you are on." What's so hard to understand that someone who is non military, arrived over the weekend and has been on island for 4 days is not 100% sure of where they are staying. :thumbup1:

You have a bad tendency to read too much into what someone writes Doug.
You look for the conspiracy before thinking about the post and taking it at face value.
And yes I stand by that post as NOT being condescending. You want to know why?
Use some common sense here Doug, you want to know how to get somewhere but you don't know for sure where you are.
Then you get pissed off because someone asks you to clarify yourself?
Even YOU would say I have a hard time understanding as well I would think......:scratchchin:
Maybe next time I should just ask the person...What the **** are you talking about? Where the ******* hell are you stationed? If you ******* dont know where the hell you are at how the ******* hell do you expect any ******* person to assist your dumb ******* ass? Now that would be condescending.
Edited to add this...
If it wasn't your desire to start shit here this AM why make this comment in the first place?
"Hopefully I managed to post this before the inevitable deluge of condescending remarks."
It wasn't necessary to the discussion and comes across as flame bait directed towards me, because you know damn well too that the thread you refer to in your comment here there was no deluge of condescending comments either. Now if this comment is directed towards Doc P or Tanimaga..then I will demurely refrain from further comment.

Sure thing Muku  If you can't see how that sentence was condescending, that's on you. Its not the fact you were asking him to clarify himself in relation to where he was/is. It was the condescending remark you just had to make beforehand (second sentence)
I AM using some common sense here Muku, you want to get your point across that further information is need without provoking the kind of response you received, leave out the "father-knows-best" condescending remarks. :thumbup1:

Why Muku, were your proverbial ears burning when you read what I wrote? Did something lead you to believe that you were the only one that may have made a condescending remark to someone who has asked for directions in the past? You weren't the only one that has done so, in the thread I mentioned or in the past. You're just the first to respond to my comment.:)

Doug, you need to apologize to Muku for knowing before hand how this thread would turn out. LMAO! I almost didn't click on it, because I knew it too!

You look for the conspiracy in snide comments from those suffering with inferiority complexes too.

I'm sure they have a lot of time on their hands, aren't they like open for an hour in the morning or something.:rolleyes:
Hehe, I've met a few Japanese who just fail at romaji. I think they teach/taught it this way at one point, didn't they? I remember having some students who'd write Sy___ whatever for their name... But they were kids...
They even drew a cute little airplane! :D

OMG! By "same writing skills" are you being condescending and really meaning "lack of skills?" Or are you comparing a digital art image with writing?
I see a conspiracy here!!!:star:
Hey Doug, can you edit that map picture and add on a flaming helicopter, some drunken marines fighting, a noisy jet, and a drunk marine passed out on someone's lawn?
Edit: Oh! And a bigass truck pulling a u-turn in an E.S. parking lot complete with your default scared/crying kids picture!

Damn straight! Righteously condescending and to the point!
I wasn't referring to the images but the writing btw. AND my point was made.

In all seriousness here...THey get taught one system of writing romaji in ES 4th grade. The Japanese way. But it makes for a lot of goofy looking errors when a person who reads only English sees it.
The "Hebourn(sp?)" style is self taught by those willing to learn it. That is the one that is closer to English.

How can you make "any" point when there is already an assumed conspiracy in your point? Thus, any point you may "wish" to make, is not being made, another in it's place is.

Note that I did not refer to myself in the first person at any point. Had I been discussing paranoia, then I would have.

I noted it but since you choose to reply with your comments it is fairly easy to presume that you are talking about yourself here as well.
You are doing very well in taking the matter into your own hands and I am enjoying a laugh at the same time. Thank you!
@ Doug here.....I figured you were smart enough to realize that when I used the word conspiracy that you would take it figuratively and not literally.
