AFN PSAs

Ok who here actually likes the PSAs that are palyed through out the day on AFN radio and TV stations? Are they usefull or are they just another nuisance that could be replaced with more programs or music.


Edit: Just to be more clear I'm referring to those annoying commercials.

Some of them are pretty funny, which is the only reason I voted "they're ok". I don't see why you need to be told to drink water when it's hot outside, but hey, maybe you guys do!! :o

I'd have to say its a bit preachy at times and they dumb it down to the point I can't take it seriously anymore. But there are some idiots out there and maybe that's who they're trying to reach.

For a hundred years, everyone said "Kadeena." Then some General's wife did a USO tour of a bingata factory or something and found out about A,I,U,O,E.

They decided that since the English spell it "Kadena" it's got to be pronounced "Ka-den-na."

For a year after, everyone on the island was trying to say it like that. I went away for awhile and came back and now it's pronounced both ways.

So we foreign folks pronounce it like we think it always should have been before we came here and changed everything and made the Okinawans pronounce it like us.

It's just out little way of saying, "sorry."

If I'm talking to an American, I say Kadeeeeeena.

If I'm talking to a local, I say Kadena or Chatan or break it down even further.

It's not something I really get my panties in a bunch over. I've kind of grown to accept it both ways just from hearing both ways so long...

But I remember when the base started saying it proper for about a year or so. Used to crack me up, because even when they tried, it still sounded fruity. Still feels right for me for Americans to say Kadeeeena lol...

I can't stand almost all of the PSA's, I've had people that were here years ago tell me those are the same ones they got on tv.

I can't stand the cellphone one with the chick driving the car and then that other weird guy following. I mean how could talking on your cellphone lead to driving in the grass and running over a toy dog???? You have to watch it closely, he's not even on the road.

And you guys are right about those stupid people who can never catch a clue. when I was doing gaurd duty on the gates, I would have people roll up to show the ID and have those ipod earphones in both ears. I would tell them it was not authorized while driving, I'd get an odd look from them like they never heard about that rule and then to make it worse just drive off with them still on. Freakin retards can't catch a clue, I'd do more than just a ticket for stuff like that. I'd take away driving priveledges for these kinds of things. If you can't catch on you don't deserve to drive, simple as that.
