Do pro sports players make too much money?

My opinion, and I got into a debate with my family on this while I was on leave...

Yes. Its not that they make too much money, its that they demand soo much money. Thats my problem with 'em. Make good money for what you do, sure. Demand too much money for what you do, that is where I draw my line. If everyone did that these days for everything...the world would be hell.

HELL yeah they make tooo much money. They play a damn game for millions of dollars. Yes, they are amazing athletes, but how the hell do you justify someone that plays a game making more money a year than someone who saves lives in an emergency room??

That's always been the case. How about teachers? In my opinion, teachers should make more money than anybody on the planet.

But, no, I don't think they make too much money. Like someone else on AFN said, I think we pay too much money.

They make far tooo much money. When a family has to save up to go to a game, you know something is wrong. They should all take pay cuts, from the CEO of whatever team it is on down to the waterboy. Cut the damn prices of conessions and tickets, they dont need to be paid that much.

Do pro sports players make too much money?

Sure I agree they make too much money and many come across to me as spoiled brats because they can play a "game". BUT, who's to blame?

How many people can live without their Sunday football game? How many just have to go to the ballpark to be entertainted by these players? That's all it is is entertainment.

Society as a whole, and it's world wide as well, has decided that these people with these talents should be paid this money to perform for us. If people really wanted it to change all they have to do is stop watching, buying tickets, sportswear with their favorite team logos or player merchandise and prices would go down. That simple.

Completely agree, but that would never happen. We can decide ourselves not to go, but that really doesnt do any good. There are plenty of people that will spend anything to go watch their team. Its a shame, like you said, if everyone would just not tune into football for one sunday, and not go to any games...it would change.

Like someone else on AFN said, I think we pay too much money.

I had heard that. We pay too much money because they demand too much money. Its a huge circle.

How about a jersey that costs an arm and a leg.
It all goes back to the huge circle...

Like I said, I have no problem with someone making a good money for what they do. But when people turn down multi-million dollar contract because the next person got more and they wanna demand the same...lets get real here. Its obvious its not about the game at that point.

To what the others had mentioned about the teachers and the doctors making less than a pro sports player...thats a DAM good point, and I had never really thought about that.

I myself have turned away from most pro sprts because of that simple reason. I don't watch football, basketball, baseball...any of that.

And as much as I don't like I also do not begrudge them for what they make. I know of almost no one that wouldn't change places with some of these guys either.

Society will never get it right in my opinion and pay the people that deserve the money more than just entertainers.

I lost all interest in professional sports during that big MLB strike in the 90s. I was about 12 or so back then and it was pretty shocking when their true colors came out. They weren't playing for the love of the game at all!

And they weren't making nearly as much back then as they are now. Just rediculous.

I had heard that. We pay too much money because they demand too much money. Its a huge circle.

Most I think "demand" it through their agents. All it would take is for an owner to say no. But then the player moves on to somewhere else where someone will pay because society wants to see winners and winning costs money most of the time. I think society is warped when it comes to this issue.

because they demand too much money. Every once in a while someone says no. Latrell Sprewell.....I need more than $20 million a year, I gotta family to feed.:barf::cursing:

agents, the player themselves, whatever the case at hand is, the bitches make too much a year.

and to those who have been busted for drugs, illegal bats, ref's calling one sided games...you know as well as I do, those are the select few who have been busted.

Pro players make way too much money, so do team owners. But don't hate the player hate the game right?

I agree with the fact that teachers should make more money but not all.
I think the education system in the states should become a little more competitive. Free markets for educational services can help the students as well as the teachers.:thumbup1: Don't want to stray far to off topic.

So I'll close with Pro players make a lot of money for what the do.

That is it! I'm running for office...when I am elected I will create a law that makes salaries even all the way across the board! Janitors get paid the same as the president, tomatoe pickers the same as a CEO. Problem solved!

Oh wait...I think my felony record will prevent me from running for office! Damn...you are all on your own!

Wait a minute...don't booo me! Everyone would get paid $150,000 a year no matter what they do (as long as they are working!) Sounds good...probably wouldn't work out so well if you were paid the same as your boss and you had to scrub toilets, I don't see much getting done!

Or we could just do away with money entirely and make it a barter system. But then again, $150k a year is nice and simple. Don't have to weigh the difference between certain tasks...

Ok, works for me... Just don't put us all at minimum wage or I'm coming after you.

But then a beer would cost $5 each.....wait it already does. I'm suing you DocP I am not getting 150K per year.:cursing:

If you think about it, 150k would probably be close...seeing as CEO's, athletes, and others make millions a year.

My plan has flaws, but I'm working on it!

I think if salaries became closer (for every field) then inflation wouldn't be such a threat. Years ago, someone made the mistake of putting too much emphasis on certain professions (lawyer, doctor) and forgot some of the important ones. Thing is, doctors wouldn't be doctors without teachers. Teachers couldn't survive without farmers (some of them), farmers couldn't work without mechanics. It's one big circle, but somewhere we became lost!

I wrote a paper...years ago about why we should still be on the barter system. Work everything out in trade! I think that is best for everyone, but international trading would be a bitch...wouldn't it!
