Was a jughead stationed at Futenma back in the 80s, missed Oki ever since and all I think about is going back, best time of my life.

Florida, same lattitude as Oki so same weather, unfortunately boring as hell compared though! Are you guys mostly military stationed there? Seems like some of you might be American civilians living there, is that correct? I would love to get a job there.

I'm American civilian. Not connected to the military at all other than I'm around them a lot. Welcome to the forums.

I'm civilian, but still working on base. Not brave enough to strike out on my own!

Well I envy you all being able to live there. I have mixed feelings because I think the bases should go, especially Futenma, but on the other hand they allowed me to live there for 2 years and have some amazing experiences that I will never forget, so I guess I'm somewhat of a hypocrite.

If the bases did go would that cause problems for a lot of American civilians living there? Are they dependent on them? Are you guys generally for keeping them on the island?

I am not dependent upon them at all. I am generally for not keeping them. Though, I wouldn't mind if Kadena stayed and just one other base with Army and Marines sharing it. Numbers downsized drastically.
