When PCSing off-island how long can you keep your car before you actually leave?
I should be getting orders any day now, and this is my first assignment. I'm worried that I have to sell/junk my car 30 days out and I won't be able to get to and from work.
Also where is the best place to junk a car in case I can't sell mine?
There are two or three or four companies advertising "junk your car for free" services on our classifieds.

You can drive your car up until your last week usually. If you opt to junk it, then you will need to do so a few days before your flight so that you can check out of Vehicle Regs.

I sold mine about a month before I left but I had another vehicle (took me about two weeks to sell it). You could try to sell it about a week or two before you leave and drive a rental until you leave. But that kinda sucks because rentals are expensive on kadena and they just about never have any available.

Yeah I'm not sure if I'll be able to sell it for much. If I put it up for sale 30 days out then the car would only have 2 months of JCI left, and it needs new tires lol.

If your car is worth less than 1200 bucks, keep it until you leave, but give it away to someone prior.
It might be worth it to JCI and put cheap tires on, then give it away with the stipulation you drive it until you leave.
Compare that cost with the cost of renting a car, or the hassle of begging rides.

Its a Toyota Camry. Everything is in perfect working order, but I don't think I'd spend $600 on a JCI, and another $400 on tires just to give it away. It'll probably be best just to keep it until the last possible moment lol. I just got to figure out when that would be.
