Anybody know of any good ones? I only really found 2, and 1 (Okinawa Times) hasn't been updated in years, and the other (Ryukyu Shimpo) seems to have scrapped their english version altogether. Thanks..

not so much a newspaper, but This Week on Okinawa is a little book with weekly news. It is sold on base at the registers at BX/Shoppette etc..

Yeah, not a whole lot out there aside from JU and Stars and Stripes as far as English Okinawan News is concerned...

It's a shame a few of the other local papers won't get their act together and hire someone to help them keep their English section open and up to date.

JU is ok but they don't publish new stuff very often, S&S I can't stand cause it's mostly just DOD propaganda.

Yeah I doubt that will happen.
From my understanding back in the day one paper was conservative and one was liberal. You can read that as anti-American and pro-American. Now (again my understanding) both newspapers have strong ties to the Socialist party and therefore are both conservative (anti).
This is why you see no good press in either paper, even when we save lives or what have you.

Oh I don't mind the anti-American stuff, a lot of it is justified, I'm not feeling too good about stuff we're doing in world right now either. And if they want to be socialist that is their business, I'm not for ramming unfettered capitalism down everybody's throat.

Oh it wasn't a criticism at all, I would just like to read about the day-to-day happenings and opinions from a pure Okinawan perspective. I used to read Oki Times a lot, I don't know why they stopped the english version, the Shimpo of course would be great to read, but same thing happened there.

I'm with you. I too wish I had more Okinawan news to read, and I always enjoyed visiting other local news websites when they'd at least put an effort to keep them updated...

I've pretty much given up on everybody except the Mainichi as of lately, and they're mainly mainland Japan.
