What is the biggest shortfalling in the leadership of your immediate commanding officer?
Not highly competent in MOS work field
Not good at setting an example
Demands respect rather than earns it
Unfair in treatment of subordinates
Doesn't adequately credit the work of subordinates
Sloppy appearance e.g. overweight, unkempt
Unable to motivate subordinates
Poor communication skills
Doesn't go up to bat for subordinates when they are in trouble with higher Command elements
Doesn't seek out input from subordinates
Doesn't listen to advice from more experienced enlisted NCOs.
Lacks integrity
Can't earn the trust of subordinates
Aloof/not approachable

Personally I believe this thread should have no replies.

"The military leadership is blah blah blah. Many people have said it"
Bad idea IMO

How can 'you' be attacked in a way that hurts 'you'? No personal info is being posted. Enlisted and officers will bitch amongst themselves, friends, and families about the shortfallings of their commanding officers. This has gone on for as long as there has been a distinction between leaders and followers. Nothing new.
JU forum is not Okinawa Marine, The Shogun, or Leatherneck, Navy Today, etc... and is here to promote discussion on any social aspect.
Perhaps some commandning officers looking in on this could benefit from some of the pointed criticisms leveled toward commanding officers and ask/reflect on whether those are valid criticisms of themselvs.
Post if you wish. Post not if you wish.

Sometimes it is good to say "the baby is ugly"! They need to here it, from time to time!

I can see what EVO is saying. Everyone tells us that we are "ambassadors" over here... it doesn't really matter if that is just a line to keep us on our toes and make us always do the right thing... whatever... but I really wouldn't want to say or read about if the leadership of one our officials in the Marine Corps is "blah blah". Yeah it might be alright to say that your boss or CO really rode your a$$ today... but coming straight and say "that Lt or CO of mine is such a lazy bastard... all he does is sit on his a$$" That might be crossing the line.
What if you really spoke your mind about this certain individual and he reads it, like it's said above in the thread... You could get really slammed for saying something about your officers... It's been a while since I was in the Corps, but isn't there something in the UCMJ about bad mouthing you higher ups?

Wow, that is naieve. In much the same way I won't write things I may think or say I would not recommend anybody to comment about their superiors anything on a public forum.

Only two "Officers" really stand out in my mind. I served under one at Bitburg A.B., Ge. The other one, here at Kadena. When you try to put that into perspective, after a 20 year career, that's pretty good.
I've also had the opportunity of working with multi-national forces, and have nothing negative to report in regards to their leadership.

Yea you are correct. Wait till you retire or get out and tell the press, Commanding Officers do it all the time about their BOSS.
