Marine Corps Base to host 2nd Annual Haunted House, Trunk or Treat celebration
Date Posted: 2007-10-29
This open-base event will give SOFA members and Okinawans the opportunity to share Halloween together in a central and safe location aboard a U.S. military installation.
“Trunk or Treat is a great opportunity for our military community to share a great tradition with our host nation,” said MSgt. Robert Webber, the Camps Foster and Lester Camp Services chief. “Whenever we have a chance to share something together and grow as a community, we should make the most of it.”
Trunk or Treat and the haunted house will be open to SOFA members and Okinawans Oct. 30th from 6-9 p.m.
Last year, more than 4,000 Americans and Okinawans gathered for the celebration that saw about 60 volunteers decorate their vehicles for “Trunk or Treat.” This year, more than 100 volunteers are encouraged to participate. Volunteers will be able to decorate their car or a booth and hand out candy. First, second and third-place prizes will be given to the volunteers with the best car or booth.
Along with Trunk or Treat, the celebration will include a haunted house built by Marines from Marine Corps Base’s Headquarters and Service Battalion. Last year’s haunted house was highlighted by a dungeon, an exorcist room and graveyard. This year, the Marines planning the layout of the haunted house will have some new surprises for those who dare to enter. “This will definitely be a scary haunted house,” Webber commented.
