Okinawa City mayor complains about bar rapeDate Posted: 2007-10-15 Mitsuko Tomon paid visits this week to the U.S. Consulate in Naha, to the Foreign Minister’s Okinawa Office, and to the Okinawa Self Defense Office to voice her concerns about crimes being committed by Americans. The 21-year-old son of an American Air Force officer was arrested earlier in the week and charged with the October 1st rape of a waitress in an Okinawa City bar. The mayor is demanding an apology from the governments, along with compensation for the rape. She’s also insisting the Americans provide stronger education on proper behavior to its troops and dependents. Karmela Conry of the American Consulate Naha assured the mayor “we have to do our best to prevent” such incidents. The foreign minister’s office expressed its sadness and regrets over the incident. |
