No rain good news to prefecture’s mango growersDate Posted: 2002-06-23 Mango requires warm and sunny weather to thrive and that’s what they are getting this year. Right now before the season really begins mangos at local supermarkets are fetching ¥1,500 to ¥2,000 a piece, and although the price will come down as more fruit is coming to the market, they are still expected to cost about ¥500 each. Farmers expect this year to be a good one with a harvest totaling over 2,000 tons, the best ever. In comparison, the last year’s harvest totaled 1,600 tons. The prime harvest time is also two to three weeks earlier than normal. |
