2004 I Love Okinawa Campaign Seeks VolunteersDate Posted: 2004-03-04 ![]() ![]() ![]() Ten clean-ups have been scheduled on the third Sunday of each month at several locations throughout the island. Each clean-up will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will include a fun and exciting after-clean-up activity. The I Love Okinawa Campaign officially starts every year on March 5—the date designated as Coral Day by the Okinawa Prefecture Diving Safety Council. The first event takes place on March 7. It includes a clean-up of Cape Maeda in Onna Village and an environmental assessment which includes a check for Crown of Thorn starfish and buoy-mooring to ensure boaters don’t damage coral reefs by dropping anchor at the wrong place. Afterwards, the campaign will kick-off in style at the Sunday Beach Bash! Ten tickets to this event will be raffled off to participating volunteers. The Sunday Beach Bash will feature musical groups Real Five Disco, Daddy P, and God Making. Admission to the Beach Bash is ¥1,500 and includes one drink. For more information, check out GrooveSeeker at www.gsv2.com. The I Love Okinawa Campaign is a whole year event.
