A wild boar has been captured after a month-long rampage in Haebaru Town. The animal was finally caught in Miyahira, Haebaru Town after it had torn up plants and damaged fruit trees in residents’ gardens since end of January. It had also caused damage to several parked cars. The boar was finally caught in a trap that local resident Fumihiko Majikina had set up in his garden.

Majikina said he did not expect to see a wild boar to be the culprit that had torn a hole in his fence and torn down his fruit trees. “It was a surprise when I discovered that it was a wild boar that had caused the damage. I though that it might have been a dog or cat,” Majikina said.
Some residents said they had seen the animal roaming in the neighborhood, but had not known what it was. “I have never seen a wild boar. I really thought that it was some kind of dog that had escaped from its master,” one resident said.
Haebaru Town officials said that wild boars usually don’t some to urban areas. “We think that someone may have raised the boar as a pet and it then escaped, as we have never heard a wild boar coming to so tightly built residential area,” a city official said.
