Sail Korea 2002 Tall Ship RaceDate Posted: 2002-04-17 This grand event was organized in hopes of international friendship and exchange between all cultures of the world. It is especially geared towards promoting friendship and understanding between young people. The event will be held in May 2002 at the same time as the World Cup soccer games in Japan and Korea. The organizers hope this event will draw more attention to the region so that the games in both countries will mean a lot. They hope that this event will encourage friendship and cooperation between all Asian countries. On May 8, all of the tall ships will arrive at Naha port. The next day, all ships will be open to the general public for viewing. There will also be parties, stage events, and a parade on Kokusai Street on May 9, so get ready for the festivities! Finally, on May 10, there will be a Captain’s Party at the Seamen’s Club. The ships will depart Okinawa on May 11 and head to Incheon, where they will arrive on May 22. They will drop by Icheon from May 22 to May 26 and then depart to Mokpo, where they will reside from May 26 to May 30. Busan is their next destination. The ships will drop anchor from June 6 to June 8 and then head to their final destination, Yokohama. They will stay in Yokohama for the remainder of the race, from June 26 to June 30. Okinawa is the starting point of this great race, and during the four days the boats will be on island, there will be many events, celebrations, and parties until the ships are set sail. There will also be a parade for all sailing ships and the starting line will be gorgeous! This will be an event to remember. It is excellent promotion for international peace and we hope many people will come to support the many countries involved. |
