Registration deadline for 2004 Okinawa Marathon nearsDate Posted: 2003-12-11    According to organizers, the marathon objectives are to encourage sports and general fitness throughout the island. They also hope the annual race will help promote international and inter-cultural exchange among people of different origins. The full marathon begins at 9 a.m., and participants must finish the race by 3 p.m. A concurrent 10-kilometer road race starts at 9:30 a.m. Any person who is in good health and is over 16 years old is invited to participate. The entrance fees, which include insurance and a commemorative T-shirt or towel, are Y4,000 for adults over 18 and Y3,000 for children under 18. Participants to the 10km road race pay Y2,000. No refunds of entry fees are accepted. Application forms are available at MCCS athletic facilities, Risner Fitness Center on KAB and MWR Sports & Fitness Center on Torii Station. Off-base, the forms are available at the Okinawa Marathon Executive Office on the second floor of Koza Athletic Stadium. The office is open 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. every day until the race registration deadline on Dec. 21. |
