Passing typhoon prompts super high tides

Abnormally high tides has been observed recently around Okinawa region, and the year’s highest tide to day was measured Monday morning. Affected by the typhoon Pabuk passing by, Naha City observed a tide level at 145 cm, 27 cm higher than average.

With the abnormally tide, roads near Haebaru Fishing Port in Katsuren Town were filled with seawater. In Ogimi Village and Motobu Town, three houses were flooded up to the floorboards. At Manko Lake in Naha City, water gates were shut in order to prevent ocean water from streaming up the river.
