Clean Beach Campaign Starts Again

Date Posted: 2001-03-02

It's that time of year again. Okinawa International Clean Beach Club (OICBC) will kick off the "I LOVE OKINAWA" Campaign 2001 on Sunday March 4th, with a coastal and underwater clean-up at Maeda Point, Onna Village from 10~12. We will meet at the parking lot at Maeda Point. The underwater clean-up is organized in cooperation with the Okinawa Diving Safety Council & the Japan Marine Safety Agency and in honor of Coral Day on March 5. OICBC will release this yearfs schedule of beach clean-ups on Sunday. Beach clean-ups are held every third Sunday from March to September between 10am ~ 12noon, rain or shine.

In September groups participate in the Island wide clean up "YUIMARU" by adopting a beach and collecting data on marine debris as part of the International & U/W Coastal Clean Up (Center for Marine Conservation and PADI).

The "I LOVE OKINAWA" Campaign was started by a group of concerned local and international friends and consists of beach & underwater clean-ups, coastal improvement projects, visits to schools and facilitating local projects.

Support is also provided by World O.C.E.A.N. Inc. that publishes the Annual Okinawa Report, My OCEAN Charter's in cooperation with UNESCO IOC.
