Wi-Fi Service with Ponta offered by Lawson
Date Posted: 2012-03-09
SmartPhone users now have a new window to the world at Lawson convenience stores, with introduction of a Ponta card that provides a range of services ranging from free Wi-Fi to access to music, movies, games and some electronic books.
The Ponta card is a membership card offered free by Lawson. It can be used at GEO rental shop, HMV, HIS tour company and others around the island, collecting points on an individual’s account. The card is free, by visiting the Ponta website http:///www.ponta.jp/, or Lawson’s site http:///www.lawson.co.jp/company/e/index.html?ca=top_glo_105.
Registration is free for a limited time, starting the end of this month. Users install a ‘Lawson Appli” from the app store or android marked, then enter the Ponta membership number. Once in place, access is available for free Wi-Fi service, as well as using Lawson’s books, games, music and movies services. Lawson officials say the free internet service will be helpful in the event of emergencies or disasters.
It will also allow Lawson to conduct more detailed research into products and services sought by its customer. Currently, 40% of Lawson customers have Ponta, and the goal, says a Lawson official, is to increase that percentage to 50%.
