Kokusai Street to be cleaned at Halloween

Date Posted: 2009-10-22

Costumes and street cleaning will go together this Halloween, as high school and university students in Naha City band together to clean Kokusai Street.

The students, in a group called ‘Love and Peace Murasaki’, are planning to use Halloween Day, October 31st, beginning at 3 p.m. “to make a clean town and have fun together, being happy with our Halloween costumes.” The students plan to transform garbage into art, and will use a variety of plans to make everything happen.

Please come with us to clean the Kokusai Street,” the group says, “and wear a costume. First come to Matsuo Park and we’ll start cleaning from there.” Those who participate in a quiz contest “might get a prize if you have the right answer to our quiz show.”

A group leader says “we want people to know how much of the town’s roads are dirty,” and says a huge trash box will be provided and all trash collected into the single location so everyone “can see how much dirt there was” when the street was cleaned.
