Governor supports new child protection facilityDate Posted: 2009-10-08 Governor Hirokazu Nakaima has told the Prefecture Assembly members meeting that “I would like to find a way to actually building the facility; not only examine, but more process.” Proponents of the new facility see the need for a place where developmentally disabled children and emotionally disturbed children could be cared for properly. Okinawa City’s Child Care Consultation Center’s chairman says “right now, we would like to get a protection facility, as there’s so much abuse from parents we just don’t have enough child care places.” Yuko Yamauchi asked “how can we accept other children? I hope that listening to abused children’s voices and accepting them” will make you want to support a new child protection facility, he told the Assembly members. The current short-term child protection facility is full, leaving the dilemma that abused children can’t be cared as well as it should. Yamauchi says the center was originally built to accept abused children on a temporary basis to take children into a protective institution and with foster parents. Yamauchi says “abused children can’t make friends with other children well, and the staff has a big headache trying to take care of these children. |
