Stimulant drug use doubles on OkinawaDate Posted: 2009-09-04 Police say the number of cases in Okinawa has more than doubled compared with a year ago. A total of 74 cases involving 50 people brought charges in the first six months of this year, compared with 34 cases involving 22 people a year ago. Analyzing data from the past decade, police say it’s the highest number for any six-month period since 2005, when 110 cases and 93 persons were exposed. The numbers of stimulant drug users is increasing, police say, because of the ease with which people can now purchase drugs through home delivery services or on the internet. Stimulant offenders, narcotic users and those who smoke cannabis are mostly between 20~30 years of age, according to police. “Offenders who use stimulants,” police investigators say, “are actually becoming the public examples. |
