Orion to launch a new diet beer

Date Posted: 2009-08-27

A sugariness zero beer is coming to Okinawa September 8th as Orion Beer Company rolls out its latest product.

Orion, Okinawa’s home grown beer company in Nago City, is calling the new beer Zero Life. It uses the same malts as regular beer, but no sugariness. The beer, says Orion, is good for people who want to reduce their weight. Orion currently sells a low malt beer with 50% less sugar.

The new Zero Life is will be sold in 350ml and 500ml cans. While the final pricing is still being determined, Orion officials say they expect it to be ¥120 per can. “Our beer is so fresh and good tasting,” says an Orion official, “that the best point is the low calorie count in beer, and it’s healthy.” As consumers cut back on expenses, beer consumption has dropped, leading all breweries to reach out to attract customers.
