JAL, ANA to resume intíl flights fuel surcharges

Date Posted: 2009-08-27

International air travelers on Japan Air Lines and All Nippon Airways will be feeling the pinch on tickets starting October 1st as the airlines re-enact fuel surcharges.

All Nippon Airways blinked first, announcing a two-month reinstatement of fuel surcharges on international flights. ANA says it wants to stay flexible to market changes, so is currently imposing the new charges only for a two-month period.

Japan Air Linse, on the other hand, says it will re-start the charges on all international flight tickets for a three-month period beginning in October. JAL plans to make a one-way surcharge of •10,000 on flights between Japan and Brazil, •7,000 on flights between Japan and North America or Europe, and a •1,500 surcharge on flights between Japan and China. ANAís fuel charges are roughly the same, says a JAL official.
