Okinawa man questioned in U.S. dependent hit and run

An Okinawa man could face charges in connection with his fleeing the scene of an accident near Camp Foster after striking an American dependent riding her bicycle last Thursday.

Authorities say the man, who surrendered himself to Okinawa City Police, is being questioned about the accident, which seriously injured Erin Harding, who was riding her bicycle about 5 a.m. near the Camp Foster Commissary Gate. Police. The man has been released from custody, pending charges.

The 36-year-old Harding was seriously injured in the accident, and has been medically evacuated from Okinawa to Balboa Medical Center in San Diego. She was initially taken to the U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Lester with a fractured pelvis, fractured hip, three fractured vertebrae and a sprained shoulder. Harding’s husband, Major Todd Harding, is expected to be reassigned to a Marine Corps Air Station in California, where he will be close to his wife during her extended recovery.
