Chiba murder suspect nabbed in Naha

Date Posted: 2009-07-25

A 28-year-old Chiba man who kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and killed her mother has been arrested by Naha City Police.

Hiroyuki Nakada was arrested yesterday after being spotted on a Naha street. He is accused of killing his former girlfriend’s mother, Aiko Toyoda, on Saturday. Police say the 61-year-old Aiko was repeatedly stabbed in the neck as she stood on the staircase of a Chiba apartment building.

Nakada, police say, kidnapped Tomomi Toyoda about the same time as he killed her mother. The 22-year-old Tomomi was with Nakada when he was apprehended in Naha. She’s been placed in protective police custody. The accused killer was traced to Okinawa after mainland Japanese police first found his car in Tochigi Prefecture, then learned he had purchased plane tickets for Okinawa on Sunday.

Chiba Prefecture Police say Nakada had first met Tomomi through an internet dating service in January. The two broke up in June, but Nakada pursued the girl, snatching her in early July and taking her to Aichi Prefecture in his car, against her will. Tomomi reported the incident, as well as several other stalking incidents, to police.

Nakada has denied both the murder and kidnapping charges, insisting to authorities “the content of the charges leveled against me is wrong.”
