Hija River festival promotes rafting, environment and fun

Date Posted: 2009-07-16

Kadena Town residents are fine tuning their ‘Let’s play full time with Water’ theme ahead of Sunday’s Yu-Yu Hija River Kappa Festival.

The 22nd Yu-Yu Hijagawa Kappa Fest takes place at the Yara Castle Park. Organizers are placing emphasis on the environment, and the need for everyone to share responsibility for keeping the land and water clean. The focus is on bringing back clear streams and rivers, including the Hija River that flows through Kadena Town.

Sunday’s program includes eel catching contests, arm wrestling, and men’s, women’s and children’s river raft races. Throughout the day there’ll be fabric classes, Hija River exhibitions, sports activities along the river, and classes on how to make river rafts.
