Tiger & Dragon offers new language school approach

Date Posted: 2009-07-09

Chikako Idogaki is bringing three cultures into the same room with foreigners, giving everyone a chance to learn Thai Massage or Japanese language, or both.

The Thai Thai Massage & Thai Massage School and the tiger & Dragon Japanese Language School are nestled into the same comfortable building in Yomitan, not far from Torii station. Owner-director Chikako Idogagi, whose background includes stints as both Northwest Airlines and All Nippon Airways flight attendant, has settled on her new career of offering foreigners “very casual and friendly” Japanese language training, as well as training and teaching the traditional skills of a Thai massage therapist.

Tiger & Dragon Okinawa offers a separate course in Japanese life, in addition to straight language classes. The popular Japanese life classes are “to live in fun in Okinawa, to make for a good life, to make Japanese friends and to experience the Japanese culture,” says Idogaki. There are also outdoor events in addition to classroom lessons. Making picnics, surfing, fishing, diving and beach parties are as much a part of the curriculum as the vocabulary lessons.

There’s a secondary pitch to Tiger & Dragon language classes. The school also teaches aids to employment, such as how to write a Japanese resume or to write an employment history.

The Thai Thai Massage, a Thai style massage, has been a staple for some two years now. The teacher therapist is licensed by the Thai Union of Thai Traditional Medicine Society, and offers full service teaching in stretching, pumping, acupressure, and combinations involving all body massage. Idogaki recommends a 90-miinute Thai body massage as the best. Students who take a total of 30 hours Thai Massage School classes qualify for a Thai Massage Therapist diploma.

Classes are offered in varying combinations, including three-hour lessons over ten days. The school says it’s flexible, and students can custom tailor their class work to individual schedules. Information is available at (098) 956-8020.
