Police crash cop car while chasing suspect

Date Posted: 2009-07-02

A police chase didn’t go the way officers had expected, and now the Urasoe City Police Department is apologizing to the public for carelessness on the part of its officers.

Urasoe City Police were chasing a motorbike on Highway 58 in the Minatogawa area, trying to apprehend the reckless driving motorist. While in pursuit, the officers failed to notice another motorbike cross their path, and the police car struck the motorbike, injuring the 16-year-old driver. Police say the teenager had nothing to do with the pursuit; he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Vice Chief of Police for Urasoe City has met with citizens, saying “we want to apologize to everyone for this accident, and to the boy who was injured. From now on, we’ll struggle to work and do our best not to have further accidents.”
