Zen lines the focus of traditional Thai massage

Date Posted: 2009-06-11

Seemingly, everyone’s heard of Thai massage, and many have experienced the lengthy combinations of stretching, Indian yoga and Chinese acupuncture that leave the massage recipient feeling energized and revitalized.

The crème de la crème of Thai traditional massage on Okinawa is offered only by Jasmine, whose genuine Thai massage is truly a Thai atmosphere encounter. Each of Jasmine’s masseuses are graduates of the Royal Temple, Wat Po Traditional Medical School in Bangkok, one of the country’s best known and most respected.

What does Jasmine offer? To really understand, one must first appreciate that Thai massage is an integral part of Thai culture, believed to have evolved more than 2,500 years ago, originating in India then making the trek to Thailand, along with Buddhism, from China. It’s more than simple manipulation of muscles, because Thai masseuses are taught that 72,000 channels or streams of invisible life energy lines run through the human body. Thai massage focuses on the ten major lines, known as Zen lines.

Thai massage stimulates and enhances flow of life energy, increasing blood and lymph circulation through pressure and gentle stretching of muscles. It’s more than a hands-on massage, as Thai masseuses use their elbows, thumbs, palms, knees and feet as the massage progresses. Jasmine massages traditionally last two hours, although shorter 60 and 90-minute regimens are offered.

At Jasmine, it all begins with a foot-washing session, feet washed in herbal scented water before the patron dons loose fitting pajamas for the massage. And then the wonderful experience begins, with the masseuse starting at the toes and gradually works up the legs, hips, back, shoulders, neck and finally the head, touching, prodding and massaging through the Zen lines to relieve stiffness.

Once finished, it’s time for a herbal tea as the patron basks in the afterglow of the ultimate muscle relaxation. Customers will find themselves relieved of stress, now able to achieve deep relaxation with stretched muscles. Jasmine says there’s nothing like a Thai massage to melt away tension and smooth the shoulders tight from using computers.

Visitors to Thailand rarely miss the opportunity to try a Thai massage while traveling in the Land of Smiles, and Jasmine says nobody should pass over the opportunity while here in Okinawa. In addition to traditional Thai massage, Jasmine offers foot massage, as well as aroma oil massage and steamed herbal compresses using natural herbs wrapped in cloth bags called herb balls. She’s even offering original Gift Certificates, an ideal present for birthdays and anniversaries.

To visit Jasmine, travel Route 58 south toward Naha City from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. When Jimmy’s Bakery is on the left, make a left at the next traffic light and then make a right turn at the first traffic light. Continue straight, passing one single yellow blinking light. As the road curves to the left, Jasmine is located in the corner building adjacent to Lawson’s at Ojana, Ginowan City. Their telephone number is 090-2969-4744. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, except closed on Wednesdays.
