F-22 stealth fighters return to KadenaDate Posted: 2009-06-04 Four aircraft were in the initial sortie arriving Saturday, with eight others making the Pacific journey and an Okinawa arrival on Sunday. The planes and crews are normally based at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. The F-22’s were last at Kadena early this year, also for a four-month deployment. The deployment, the U.S. military says, is to reinforce America’s commitment to the U.S. ~ Japanese alliance and security treaties, and to insure security in the Pacific region. The stealth aircraft travel at supersonic speeds and are equipped to avoid radar detection. While on Okinawa, the F-22’s will participate in joint exercises with the Japanese Air Self Defense Force. |
