Homeless manユs death called murder by police

Date Posted: 2009-05-07

The body of a 56-year-old homeless man was discovered by police Sunday after receiving an anonymous telephone call from a public pay telephone.
Okinawa Prefecture and Tomigusuku Police responded, finding the body of Tsutomu Takamoto face down on the ground in the Kyohara Town district under a bridge along Highway 329. Police suspect Takamoto was murdered, and have established a 113-man task force to conduct the investigation. Cause of death was brain damage, they say, caused by what they believe was a 1.5 meter long piece of wood found at the scene with blood on it.
Residents near where Takamoto had stayed say he was drinking with 6-7 people about 6 p.m. Saturday. The area is a common hangout for homeless people over the past dozen years, with the homeless setting up tents and sharing space under the bridge. Residents say Takamoto was disabled, and couldnユt even go shopping easily. They say he was a kind person, and that they werenユt aware of his having enemies, despite the fact that arguments and fights often break out in the area.
