Jitterin Jinn headlines Ryukyu Graffiti Special

Date Posted: 2009-05-01

Rock ‘n roll will rock Carnival Park Mihama Tuesday—both indoors and out—as the Ryukyu Graffiti Special comes to town.

The afternoon and evening event begins outside Carnival Park Mihama, under the Chatan Ferris Wheel, at 2:30 p.m. for an initial performance by Jitterin’Jinn, a mainland Japan band with both pop and rock appeal. The music moves inside to Salt&Pepper at 4 p.m.

Guest band Jitterin’Jinn will perform throughout Ryukyu Graffiti, and will be joined by deejays playing good ol’ rock n’ roll music. Organizer Takashi Kamisawatsu, who immigrated to Okinawa from the mainland, says “I feel the American culture scene more here in Okinawa, where people like music and have so much vitality.” He says the concept of Ryukyu Graffiti is to “keep on having good time old rock n’ roll culture here, so I will show them what cool rock n’ roll is.” Kamisawatsu also plays in the band Doube Face, a famous rockabilly band in Japan.

Tickets for Ryukyu Graffiti Special are on sale at Okinawa Market in Okinawa City, (098) 921-2052, or at Fooly Kooly Rockabilly Shop in Oyama, Ginowan. Advance tickets are ¥3,780, or ¥4,200 at the door. Preschoolers cannot enter the live space, but the public is welcome to join the outdoor rock n’ roll performance free.
