Botanical Gardens staging Golden Week festival

Okinawa’s Southeast Botanical Gardens is hosting a four-day Urizun Festival during week to draw citizens to see the Jade vine, now in full bloom.

The Urizun Festival, which spotlights the exceptional flower that originated in Ruson or Mindro Island in the Philippines, runs May 2nd through 5th. Botanical Gardens officials say all youngsters 15 and younger may enter free during the festival days. Adult entry fee is ¥1,000. A normal ticket for youngsters is ¥500.

The Southeast Botanical Gardens will be open daily 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Bicycle riding is available at ¥500 per hour, while carp fishing in the Gardens pond is ¥300. Aside from the Jade vine, which will be in full bloom throughout May, the Botanical Gardens is home to several thousand other trees, plants and flowers.
