Robber stages brazen pachinko parlor heist

Date Posted: 2009-04-23

A bold daylight robbery at a Pachinko Hall in Haebaru Town’s Miyahira area was successful, but cops say that thanks to technology, they’ll get their man.

The lone robber entered the pachinko hall just before opening time, approaching a clerk at the prize exchange office and pointing a gun at the clerk. “Just go inside, open the safe and give me money,” the robber demanded. The gunman was wearing a white mask and a cap, preventing the clerk from identifying him, but police say they’ve surveillance camera video which will help their investigation.

The clerk told police the robber was skinny, about 160cm tall, and gauging from his voice, about 40-50 years old. The clerk said the robber kept his weapon pointed at her back. Neither police nor pachinko hall officials revealed how much money the gunman made off with.

Police say the parlor’s location facing Highway 329 is a heavy traffic location where too many people are moving around for potential witnesses to observe anything unusual. Investigators say they believe the gunman had studied the robbery site for quite a while before making his entry.
