Seafood reigns at Samurai Dining Bar

Date Posted: 2009-04-03

There are plenty of choices at Samurai, located in Okinawa City, but seafood rank at the top of the list.

Sushi, sashimi and tempura are popular, but the really big favorite is the Samurai Boat, which features a mix of items that can include baked meat and fish, skewered entrees, salads, fried foods and more. No interest in seafood? No problem, as Samurai offers a full menu of Japanese, Okinawan and western foods.

The seafoods are fresh! Absolutely fresh! Owner/manager Masakazu Higa sees to that, thanks to his hobby blending with his restaurateur work. Hes an avid angler, and routinely provides the fresh fish for the kitchen to create entrees for his clientele.

Samurai is housed in a classic two-story Japanese home, complete with a small courtyard and Japanese garden. Samurai can seat 84, with some rooms having sunken kotatsu, the tables with foot room beneath rather than standard tatami or zabuton style. Several private rooms are available.

The dining bar is open somewhat unique hours, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m., covering the late night crowds. To get things started, a happy hour of sorts runs 5 p.m. ~ 8 p.m. with 100 beers. Samurai accepts dollars, yen and credit cards. To visit Samurai, travel Route 330 toward Ginowan, past Gate 2 Street, then turn right at the corner with 330 Parking, before Ground Street. Look for the Musashi sign on your right at the second corner.

For those not ready to call it a night after a Samurai visit, well, no problem. Karaoke Musashi is right next door, and open from 5 p.m. to noon. Musashi is equipped with the latest machines, and most of those machines are filled with plenty of English songs.
