Golden Kings lose a squeaker at buzzerDate Posted: 2009-03-26 The Western Conference leading Golden Kings were facing the Phoenix on the road in the season’s first match ups between the two squads. Observers say the games served as a pre-cursor to a Basketball Japan League championship confrontation. Okinawa is now 32-10 on the season. The Tokyo Apache split a pair with Rizing Fukuoka over the weekend, winning on the road 79-65 on Saturday, then losing a nail-biter in the final second Sunday when Kohei Mitomo sank a three-pointer for the 81-78 Rizing Fukuoka victory. The Apache now stand at 26-16, while Rizing Fukuoka is 18-24. Elsewhere, the Saitama Broncos picked up an 84-75 home court victory over the Takamatsu Five Arrows Saturday, only to lose in the final second Sunday, 86-84, as Rasheed Sparks popped in a three-pointer. The Five Arrows, now 28-14, had lagged behind until the final seconds of the game Sunday. Sparks closed out with 17 points and eight assists in the Five Arrows win. The Broncos are now 17-25. Osaka Evessa, the three-time defending BJ League champion, bounced back Sunday to defeat the Niigata Albirex BB 100-85, after losing Saturday’s contest 94-82. Osaka is now 26-16, while the Albirex holds at 20-22. Lynn Washington led the Osaka scoring both days, picking up 32 points on Saturday and another 33 on Sunday. The Sendai 89ers pushed its season record to 23-19 as it overpowered Oita HeatDevils 82-74 on Saturday and 95-82 on Sunday. The Shiga Lakestars pulled out a 76-60 home court win over the Toyama Grouses Saturday, then did it again Sunday, 78-71. Ryan Rourke was the Lakestars scoring leader both days, picking up 19 points on Saturday and 17 on Sunday. |
