Sailor killed in vehicle accident

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP S.D. BUTLER, OKINAWA, Japan – An Okinawa-based Sailor died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Sunday March 22, at approximately 6:00 a.m. and was pronounced dead at Chubuto Kusyokai Hospital in Urasoe City, at 7:23 a.m.

Petty Officer First Class Robin White Jr. of Ponchatoula, La., 35, a hospital corpsman, served as the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Surface Coordinator for Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

White enlisted in the Navy Dec. 15, 1992. He was promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class June 16, 2007 and his tour on Okinawa began July 22, 2008. Under White's guidance, 151 Sailors assigned to CLR-37 earned their Fleet Marine Force pin.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th award), Navy Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Eagle Globe and Anchor, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd award), Overseas Service Ribbon and a Flag Letter of Commendation.

"The Marine Corps is saddened by the loss of Petty Officer White," said Col. Thomas Gorry, commanding officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 37. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
