Firemen resort to cutting down tree to save cat

Date Posted: 2009-03-06

Nel is an eight-month-old cat who already has had an experience of a lifetime, but not using up any of her lives. The kitten owned by a family in Ginowan City's Ojana area ventured from its house February 21st and climbed a tree in the apartment buildingユs yard.

The trouble was, Nel went up into the 15-meter high tree, but couldnユt come down. Firemen were called, and they tried to reach her. The Japanese cedar tree's small thin branches weren't sturdy enough to support the fire department ladders, and Nel wasnユt coming down voluntarily. Finally, after four days, firemen got the green light to chop down the tree. Wednesday, February 25th, firemen succeeded in both felling the tree and rescuing the kitten.

The cat owner's daughter Yuuko, who had been worried about Nel, was happy and joined the neighbors in praising and thanking the fire department. Nel? She went to the veterinarian for a checkup, having gone four days without food or water. The family reports Nel is home and okay now, none the worse for her adventure.
