Drugs in barracks send U.S. Marine to prison

Date Posted: 2009-02-12

Marine Corps Private Brandon D. Bruce was sentenced to six months in prison this week by a Japanese court for having marijuana in his room at a Camp Kinser barracks last year.

The Naha District Court, in sentencing Bruce after he admitted the drug use and pleaded guilty, suspended the sentence for three years. The 23-year-old private, assigned to Camp Kinserís 3rd Marine Logistics Group, was caught with drugs in his system through a urine test last fall. Investigators found several packages of marijuana weighing .04 ounces in his barracks bathroom, and turned the case over to Japanese authorities after Bruce said the drugs had been purchased at a Naha City bar.
