Internet sex texts catch police eye

Date Posted: 2009-02-12

A 15-year-old girl is under investigation on charges she used her cell phone to write messages she was available for paid sex.

Okinawa Prefecture Police have sent the case files to the Naha District Public Prosecutor’s Office, charging the girl used an internet meeting site to offer herself available for a relationship with someone who would pay her. Police say she accessed the meeting site MicMic Board with her cell phone.

MicMic Board has already been under investigation by internet providers concerned about illegal content on the site. Internet providers monitor sites such as MicMic Board, reporting illegal or illicit content, as well as harmful conduct, to police.

In this case, police say they received the tip information, then began an investigation. A Prefecture Police official says there “needs to be filtering made available to parents for cell phones. Otherwise, children do bad things.”
