Spices and fresh ingredients perfect at Jai Thai

Date Posted: 2009-01-30

Thai ingredients and spices, to include lemon grass, coriander and baimakuru transform simple dishes into award-winning cuisine at Mihama’s Jai Thai restaurant.

Jai Thai, the first restaurant in Japan to win the Thai Prime Minister’s Award, works its culinary magic under the guiding hand of a leading Thai chef, preparing authentic Thai dishes that capture the essence of the southeast Asian flavors. Jai Thai, with its extensive menu of more than 60 appetizers and entrees, has just about every imaginable Thai dish.

A set lunch for ¥880 combines the beverage, appetizer, soup, main entrée and dessert, and there’s a popular lunch and dinner course that combines appetizers and favorite entrees chosen from each menu section. There’s also whole roasted chicken available for takeout, and special menus can be arranged on request for vegetarians and those with food allergies.

Jai Thai’s manager, whose motto to first timers is “you don’t know what you’ve been missing” has plenty of suggestions about choices, and takes time to chat with customers. He’ll tout the fresh ingredients, which are key to Kaeng Khio Wan, an extremely popular green curry using lemon grass, peppers and Thai eggplants, adding coconut milk for a mild, smooth texture. There’s also Tom Yung Kung, a sour and spicy soup with prawns that’s not to be missed, and Po Pia Sod, fresh rice paper rolls served with chili sauce are heavenly.

It’s all original Thai recipes, and cooked true Thai style, and Jai Thai is proud of its entrees, and its customers. High chairs and special menus are available for small children, and for special occasions, a private party room that seats 20 is available. Thai Select Winter Week Campaign runs February 6th ~ 15th at Jai Thai, with a choice of Thai-made gifts, including organic oolong tea and Thai seasoning sauce, offered to guests.

Jai Thai is located at the Carnival Park Mihama on the second floor, under the big Ferris Wheel in Chatan. The restaurant’s open Monday ~ Friday 11 a.m. ~ 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. ~ 11 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and national hospital Jai Thai is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last orders taken 30 minutes before closing time.
