League leading Golden Kings split home pair

Chris Ayer and Jeff Newton teamed up to rack up 50 points Sunday in leading the Ryukyu Golden Kings to a 91-78 home court win over the Shiga Lakestars.

Ayer went 13 for 18 in the field as league leading Okinawa improved to a 21-5 record. The Lakestars took the Saturday stanza against the Golden Kings enroute to a 2-2 split for the season. Shiga won the game 85-72 behind power shooting from Bobby Nash, who scored a game-high 24 points.

In the eastern conference, the Tokyo Apache continued its winning ways, taking a pair from a hard charging Saitama Broncos squad. It took overtime to pull out a 98-92 win Sunday after a dominant game Saturday. The Apache Saturday rolled to an early 20-point lead before fending off a late rally by Saitama to win 85-81.

Elsewhere, the Takamatsu Five Arrows picked up a pair of wins over visiting Rizing Fukuoka, 92-74 and 86-70. The wins push the Five Arrows to 17-9 on the season. The Osaka Evessa also picked up Saturday and Sunday wins against the visiting Oita heatDevils. Saturday was a 78-76 home court squeaker, with Sunday’s win by a slightly easier 79-75.

The Niigata Albirex BB and Sendai 89ers split a weekend pair, with Sendai winning 91-79 on the road Saturday, then losing to Niigata in a thumping Sunday, 90-65.The Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix pushed their record to 16-10 this past weekend, running the consecutive win streak to eight with victories over the Toyama Grouses. Hamamatsu won 94-75 on the road Saturday, and 94-81 Sunay.
