Ishigaki mayor lashes out at U.S. military, JSDFDate Posted: 2008-12-25 Mayor Chosho Ohama labeled “Japanese Self Defense Forces and the American military filth.” Responding to a citizen’s question, the mayor said “they are just as the installation of physics of the country, and they are for killing people.” Less than 24 hours later, the Ishigaki City mayor was making an apology, but not a complete one. He withdrew his comment, saying “actually, the Japanese Self Defense Force is doing bomb disposal and the also carry emergency patients too.” Ohama added “ They are doing training to protect the country, and doing it dearly with their lives. I honor them.” The mayor did not back down on his criticism of the American forces in Japan and Okinawa. |
