Summer-like record heat returns briefly to Okinawa

Date Posted: 2008-11-14

Fall is in the air, but Okinawa residents arenít feeling the bite like mainland Japanese are.

Temperatures last week soared above 30C, hovering in the record zone for four days. Okinawaís Meteorological Agency says itís the hottest November weather in the history of Okinawa. Weather forecasters attribute the temperature spike to high pressure coming from the southern Pacific.

Izena, Kume and Yonaguni Islands all reported record temperatures, as did Naha City. It didnít last, though, as rain and brisk temperatures swept back across Okinawa over the weekend.
