Chatan health center to be razed for new hotel complex

Date Posted: 2008-11-06

Bulldozers are ready to begin demolishing Sunset Mihama, a popular Okinawa Pension Health Center, to make way for a new 12-story hotel complex that developers say will bring at least 500 new jobs to the community.

Sunset Mihama officially closed at the end of September, and construction companies are preparing the site for the hotel, art gallery and six other companies that will soon occupy the Chatan Town site. The new land owner, Teruo Okuhara, is excited about the project. The owner of Okuhara trading company says he “would like to make Chatan Town more enjoyable, “ and promises “a clean environment to be effective.”

Okuhara says the 12-story hotel will have 162 rooms. A Mihama real estate company has been charged with building the complex, which is scheduled to open in summer 2010. In addition to the hotel and art gallery, which will employ more than 500, the new owner says 80 tenants are projected to fill the coplex, which will house music live houses and other businesses.
