USO Okinawa Hosts 2nd Annual Okinawan Pottery Festival

Date Posted: 2008-10-17

USO Okinawa will be hosting the 2nd Annual Okinawa Pottery Festival in front of the Kadena USO this weekend, 18-19 October from 10am – 6pm. This is the only pottery festival catering to the military community on a military installation. Vendors include potters who have pieces displayed at the Japanese Museum of Art and personal shisa gifts for President Clinton. Shoppers will have the opportunity to read vendors’ bios as well as get the assistance of translators to ask questions. There will also be some demonstration booths for adults and children to learn basic pottery. For your added convenience, a Pack N’ Wrap service is readily available for boxing up the pieces to send home as holiday gifts to loved ones.

This year, folks can enjoy all that and more! In addition to great savings (specially catered to the military community), folks will also get to enjoy traditional Okinawan Soba from “Achi Ko-Ko Soba”, Specialty Gyoza and Fried Rice from “Ryuminmin” and amazing Karate demonstrations from Ryu Kon Kai (Ryukyu Kobudo Association) and Okinawa Shorinryu Karate and Kobudo Federation Kenshinkan by Supreme Master, Fusei Fuesei. A silent auction will also take place each day at 5pm. Funds raised from the silent auction will be reinvested into local programming. For more information on the Pottery Festival, please contact the Kadena USO at 633-0438 or the Programs Department at 645-2957.
