Okinawa Ai Miyazato will play Japanese LPGA majors

Date Posted: 2008-09-12

Ai Miyazato, the local Higashi Village girl who put herself and Okinawa on the ladies golf map as a teen before moving across the Pacific to join the US Ladies Professional Golf Association says she’s coming home to play.

The 23-year-old says she’ll play two major tournaments in mainland Japan—one this month and one in October—before returning to the final leg of the US golf tour. “I’m in good form, but I wasn’t focused mentally,” she says of her recent links efforts. Miyazato will tee off today in the Japan LPGAA Championship Konica Minolta Cup, which runs through the 14th.

Miyazato, who finished fifth in early August at the Women’s British Open before missing the cut in her last two U.S. outings, says she’ll also play the Japan Women’s Open October 2~5.
