Art auction honors Kanda Art Gallery

Date Posted: 2008-09-05

A Kanda Art Auction fundraiser coming up next weekend will be a tribute to the local art gallery that has supported local community groups through the years.

The Kanda Art Gallery Art Auction, an annual event this year sponsored by the 11th Hospital Corpsman Ball Committee, will be something special, says Brian J. Davis, public affairs officer for U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa. Kanda Art Gallery, a family-owned business that has supported military groups’ fundraising through the years, will be closing soon, its owners retiring.

The September 13th fundraiser at Lester Middle School “may be one of the last opportunities to obtain the treasures from local artists that Kanda’s is famous for,” says Davis. Doors open at 5 p.m., pre-sales start at 5:30 p.m., and the auction begins at 7 p.m. Kanda Art Gallery Auction organizers say a preview of the auction can be seen at http://www.kandaboq.com. The auction, which is open to the public, is being billed as a casual attire event.
